Sterling Silver Demon Egg Signet Ring
Hand sculpted sterling silver signet ring depicting miniature Incubus crouching inside cracked egg. The delicate features of this miniature sculpture are painstakingly carved by hand with the utmost care and attention to detail.
The Incubus was inspired by Henry Fuseli’s painting “The Nightmare” (1781). Although Fuseli provided no commentary on his painting, many have theorised its meaning. It is commonly cited in reference to the phenomenon of sleep paralysis, where the waking dreamer finds themselves unable to move under a perceived weight upon their chest. European folklore references a susceptibility to demons and witches of those who sleep alone. Some believe Fuseli was depicting himself through the visiting demon, a personal portrayal of love lost
The cracked egg is commonly seen in the works of Hieronymus Bosch and Peiter Bruegel. The egg can symbolise many different things. It may mean rebirth, imprisonment, purity or fertility. It may also symbolise a potential personal metamorphosis into an unknown form,
